Where does the text I paste go?

Short answer

Nowhere. Every TidyTweet tool is JavaScript that runs on your device, so the replies, lists, embed code and links you paste never leave your browser. The filter tester and rule builder save your last list in your browser's local storage, which only you can see and which you can clear at any time.

How can I check that nothing is uploaded?

Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and use a tool: you'll see no requests when you type or click.

After the page, its stylesheet, fonts and two scripts load, the tools make no network requests at all. There's no analytics, no ad script and no cookie banner because there are no cookies.

What is stored in my browser?

Only your last block list, allow list, rule set and sample posts, so you don't lose work when you reload.

Tool What it remembers
Profanity filter tester Block list and allow list
Moderation rule builder Rules, default action and sample posts
Other tools Nothing

Clear it by using the tool's reset or delete button, or by clearing this site's data in your browser. Our privacy policy has the formal version.

Common questions

Can I use the tools offline?

Once a tool page has loaded, it keeps working without a connection, since all the logic is already on your device.

Does the link inspector visit the links I paste?

No. It reads the URL as text. That is also why it can't expand shortened links; doing so would require visiting them.
